About Lash Extensions
What are lash extensions and how are they applied?
Lash extensions have become a popular and widely desired luxury service in the beauty industry over the years. Many people seek this service for its effect on providing fuller, luscious lashes, which in turn lessens their daily/morning routine.
Lash extensions are essentially made from fibers (usually faux mink or synthetic silk) that are created in various diameters, lengths, and curls. They are applied directly to individual natural lashes adhered by a lash extension specific adhesive. Depending on a client's desired look, and mostly limited to the health of their natural lashes, lash extensions are customized to accentuate your eyes by providing the appearance of fuller, thicker, and longer lashes.
Will lash extensions damage my natural lashes?
When applied properly by an experienced lash artist, lash extensions will not damage your natural lashes. Most horror stories regarding lash extensions are due to inexperienced lash artists' poor applications. Lash extensions should not cause discomfort or tightness at the lash line.
Lash hygiene also plays a huge role in the health of your lashes, and this is the sole responsibility of the client. It is important to do your research to find an experienced artist and ensure you ALWAYS follow proper lash aftercare. When in doubt, ask your artist. Protect your luxury service!
Weather, health, and lifestyle are additional factors that contribute to your lash cycle, so it may shed at a faster rate during certain times of the year.
Just keep in mind that once you start getting lash extensions, you are going to get used to how full they look and you will become more attentive to your lashes, thus, you'll notice them more when they shed. Remember that this is just the natural cycle of your lashes.
Why is a fill necessary?
In general, a person can shed up to 5 natural lashes a day. When these lashes shed, you may see the extension attached to it. On the other hand, extensions may fall off on its own without the natural lash. During fill appointments, extensions are re-applied to the bare natural lashes. For the extensions that are still intact, there will be some that have grown out along with the natural lash requiring the extension to be removed and replaced with a new one closer to the lash line. These outgrown ones must be removed to prevent discomfort and damage to the follicle.
Everyone's lash cycle is different, so some may need to come every 2 weeks, and some may be able to push it to 3 weeks. What you do on a daily basis may vary week to week, which can contribute to the amount of fall out, thus, determining the frequency of your fills. In addition, change in weather and health (hormones, medications) can also contribute to lash cycle growth.
How do I care for my lash extensions?
Lash aftercare is the utmost important thing clients can do to ensure lashes (and eyes) remain healthy. Water alone will not suffice as a cleanser for lashes. Similarly to the way we wash our faces with a face wash or hair with shampoo, a lash-specific cleanser is necessary to cleanse the lashes to remove make-up, dirt, oil, dead skin, etc. Cleanse lashes daily for longevity of wear. After washing, fan lashes with a small fan or blow drier on cool setting to completely dry off, then brush to fluff! Remember to schedule your fill appointment within 25 days from previous appointment to upkeep the look!
Oils in face products can weigh down the extensions or cause it to clump if not cleansed off properly. Opt for oil-free products and be extra careful when using certain moisturizers and serums around your eyes. Avoid excessive heat or steam, especially while cooking, as it can cause the extensions to singe at the tip and lose its curl. Avoid using mascara and a lash curler as these will ruin your extensions. Do not pick or pull at your extensions as this can cause damage to your natural lashes. Wearing eye makeup is in your discretion. It will require more thorough cleansing and can likely contribute to more extension fall out.

How do I know if I'm allergic?
Allergic reactions and irritations usually occur within 3 days from service. It can happen to anyone at any time, even if the person has gotten lash extensions for years and the artist has used the same products. Some signs of an allergic reaction or irritation to the eyes caused by lash extensions would be puffiness, itchiness, redness, and swelling around the eyes. It's important to note that allergic reactions with lash extensions would happen to BOTH EYES, not just one. If only one eye is affected, this is an irritation, non-allergy related. Contact your artist at first sign and opt for an immediate full removal if you are experiencing any of these side effects. Additional medical care may be needed at your own expense depending on the severity. Most reactions will go away on its own with the help of some home remedies, but please use your best judgement and seek professional, medical assistance for instant relief. Reactions and irritations can possibly damage your natural lashes. Booking your appointment with Jennuine Artistry means you've read and understand these risks, and the service fees will not be refunded.
